| Flower bud development, the morphologies of inflorescence and flower have been carried out with Domat, Memecik, Ayvalık and Ascolano olive varieties grown in Kemalpaşa and Edremit ecologies in the years of 1982, 1983 and 1984. The morphological differentiation of flower bud occurred in Domat variety in March. Whereas, it happened in Memecik, Ayvalık and Ascolano varieties in the second half of February. The first appearance of sepal primordia occurred one month after the differentiation. Then petal primordia, stamen primordia and carpels of the pistil formed with a week intervals. Ovules became appearent 12-13 days after the carpel formation. Archesporium began to form 17 days after the stamen primordia. The ratio of the perfect flowers showed changes according to the varieties eg. 64.6 % in Ayvalık, 57.8 % in Domat, 48.9 % in Memecik, 25.4 % in Ascolano. The germination of the pollen grains in olive varieties was seen low and highly variable. |
