Proje adı : EFFECT OF GERMINATION IN DIFFERENT MEDIA AND PERIODS OF OLIVE SEEDS ON GERMINATION RATIO (1979)
 Hazırlayanlar : Bilman YÜCE
The aim of the study is to increase germination ratios and eliminate dormancy of seeds, by applying growth substances without any stratification. Fruits of Memecik and Ayvalık cvs were harvested 15 - day intervally in six different periods from October to 15 December, their seeds were removed off and the seeds were gathered in three groups. In the first group endocarp-free seeds were sown in two different cultural media having Gibberellic and Indole acetic acids in the lab conditions. The second group seeds were stratificated at a certain temperature for a certain period and the first half was than sown in hot-beds, while the second in cold-beds. The first half of the third untreated group was sown in hot-beds, otherwise the second one in cold-beds. The results of treatments are the following. - Germination ratio in the lab conditions was higher than both of these obtained in hot-and cold-beds. - Higher germination ratio than control were obtained with GA3 and IAA treatments, so that these results exhibited the positive effect on germination of the growth subtances. - Moreover the effects of GA3 and IAA such as promoting early germination and diminishing germination period were also determined. - The germination ability of seeds those harvested within the period of 1-15 - -- December was found at a lower level than those of the other periods. This event shows that the seeds have entered into dormancy in this period. - Germination ratios of the initial harvesting periods were found higher so that the flesh and embrio maturation does not progress synchronizingly and the embrios reach maturation stage before black-ripening period. - It was determined that upper grade-embrio-maturation periods were 1 October- 15 November and 1 October- 1 November for Memecik and Ayvalık cvs.respectively. - It was observed that GA3 promotes long and fringed rooted seedlings, while IAA causes short and taprooted ones. - Waiting and stratification is not needed for seeds to be used in producing seedlings.
