Proje adı : RESEARCH ON SEASONAL CHANGES OF NATURAL PHENOLIC COMPOUNDS ON OLIVE TREES (1994)
 Hazırlayanlar : Mustafa AKILLIOĞLU
The leaf and bud samples taken at fifteen days interval during off and on years from Memecik and Gemlik cvs. having different tendencies to alternate bearing were analyzed by Thin-Layer Chromatography techniques in order to determine and indentify the phenolic compoundsin the olive (Olea europaea L) trees. Their seasonal changes both in leaves and buds were also studied. Fifty-nine different phenolics were found in olives by taking no account of cultivars organs and the sampling dates. A significant difference was found between the compositions of leaves and buds so that thirty of phenolics are particular to leaves twenty-four of them are particular to buds and the rest five ones appear in both organs. It was observed that the seasonal changes of phenolic compounds in the leaves and buds exposed relations to the growth activities and the phenological events. Generally, higher level of phenolics were found in severely alternating Memecik cv. than Gemlik cv. It was suggested that high level of Chlorogenic acid in the olive trees inhibits both the shoot growth and flower bud induction indirectly in the same year.
